After finishing his B Sc degree in Electrical Engineering, Brian spent a year developing a new model for the prediction of Electromagnetic wave propagation in complex structures. The work was sponsored by ARMSCOR and the results were successfully submitted to the University of the Witwatersrand as part of his Master’s degree. The model developed during this time has subsequently been used in various mainstream WLAN optimization and planning tools.
The next 2 years were spent at Entelect Software as a software engineer. The highlights of the time spent at Entelect were an end-to-end credit card chip and pin authorization and processing system for a UK based company along with a derivatives pricing tool for a large South African financial institution. At this point in Brian’s career his interests shifted to the field of Business Intelligence, prompting the move to IDS Consultants at where he was already working as a consultant.
The last 6 years have seen Brian manage a team of software engineers responsible for the design and delivery of more than 30 systems in a large banking environment, all of which are still in active use today. The diverse nature of the systems designed and developed translates into a wide array of knowledge on Data Warehousing, Performance, Financial and Risk Reporting, Product Modeling & Pricing together with ongoing process re-engineering and automation.
Brian has extensive experience with most development methodologies and technologies. When not hard at work at IDS, the little time left is spent studying his CFA and working towards his PhD. In 2007 Brian was appointed as a member of the IDS management team focusing on technology.
Marcell du Plessis

After spending 3 years in Edinburgh, Scotland as a Microsoft Certified Trainer on SQL Server and other Microsoft Networking systems, Marcell joined IDS as a Software Developer in 2002.
At IDS, he matured in the area of Business Intelligence and developed extensive skills in SAS, Unix, Linux and Oracle technologies.
As a proponent in the all-round gains posed by the speed-to-market offered through development on the Microsoft Back-office and other Microsoft Development technologies, Marcell pushed hard to see his prior knowledge on the Microsoft systems better utilized and further embedded into IDS’s growth-plan and to this end was pivotal in implementing the first “Microsoft Analysis Services” OLAP solution in an credit risk environment for one of South Africa’s leading banks.
The architecture implemented using Microsoft technologies in 2005 became the basis of copious other solutions offered to IDS Customers.
Marcell joined the IDS Management team in 2007 where he has been managing 2 development teams, driving the development and maintenance of 5 “Enterprise Reporting Solutions” including 4 other bespoke large-scale “Business Process Management” web-enabled applications.
Marcell is responsible for overseeing the various development teams he has set up at our customers and is responsible for ensuring that IDS consistently builds "Quality" into our solutions.
When not focusing on IDS, Marcell spends his time broadening his knowledge on Business Intelligence technologies, methodologies and patterns in order to drive the use of solid and repeatable patterns in the organization.

During his last 2 years of university Sasha started to work on part time basis in a private educational network in Belgrade where he learnt many commercial computer software packages like Access, Visual Basic, SQL Server, Network administration. Upon graduation, he worked for a Serbian bank. He joined IDS Consultants subsidiary in Serbia in 2000 as a trainee SAS consultant.
He successfully completed several smaller MI projects for Serbian banks before moving to South Africa in 2005. He has been mainly focused on the development of Credit Risk Management Information systems at a major South African financial institution. He has worked his way through positions of senior consultant, project manager and was appointed a manager and shareholder in 2009.
Sasha has extensive SQL Server, Analysis Services, SAS, data warehousing knowledge gained from many years consulting in a large banking environment. He is very familiar with server administration and both Windows and Unix platforms.
He has managed and delivered comprehensive data warehouse and reporting platform for Credit Risk Reporting, which also includes TRIAD, Vintages, QRM feeds, National Credit Regulator reports, MIS reports, Vintage Analysis, Impairment reporting, etc.
During his years of work experience he has gained active business knowledge of Credit Risk Reporting with focuses on account performance, application and behavioral scoring, data analytics. Also, in depth understanding of banking products and the way they operate to enable sensible utilization of information.

Jose Pinto joined IDS Consultants in 2001 as a trainee SAS consultant. Over his 10 years with IDS, he has worked his way from the ground up through positions of senior consultant, project manager and shareholder.
He has extensive experience in Data Warehousing (ETL) and has been involved in the implementation of a TRIAD Customer Scoring project from initiation in 2005 to completion in 2007.
He is currently responsible for managing various IDS solutions implemented for Asset and Vehicle Finance and Residential House Price analyses in a large banking environment.

Wolf joined IDS in 2007 and has since overseen the delivery of numerous projects for whole sale clients in the financial sector.
His studies in bioinformatics and computational biology have provided him with a unique set of skills that have proven invaluable in his career in finance.
Wolf is currently placed as a client manager at the whole sale side of a major South African bank where he has overseen the delivery of systems relating to CRM, workflows, sales pipeline, product pricing, financial modeling and decision support systems, to name a few.
Wolf has extensive knowledge and experience in banking, financial modeling and information technology, and has a proven track record as a specialist provider of leading edge solutions to institutions in the financial sector.
Wolf is a firm believer in the learning organization and takes pride in keeping himself, IDS Consultants and the clients of the company at the forefront of modern day business practices.
Senior MIS Consultant, Shareholder

Edward Chen joined IDS Consultants in 2007 as a trainee consultant after his graduation at the university. He worked and learned very quickly alongside the managers and colleagues of IDS to become a senior consultant of the company.
He immigrated to South Africa from Taiwan in 1992 and later completed his Engineering Degree at Wits, and then his Masters in Engineering whilst working with IDS Consultants.
Edward specializes in SQL Server business intelligence from Data Warehousing, ETL, to Analysis Cube design (MDX), Data Mining and Reporting. He has delivered many projects including management and performance reporting, product-uptake prediction and credit risk reporting systems.
Edward has an extensive knowledge in the Banking/IT industry in both business and private banking. His experience, expertise and persistence to further advance and grow in the industry makes him an invaluable asset to the company.
Jarppi du Plessis
Jarppi du Plessis joined IDS Consultants in February of 2007 as a junior consultant.
Jarppi matriculated at Sir John Adamson High School in Johannesburg and spent a year in Israel in 1997, on various Kibbutzim. He spent the next 5 years as IT Manager at Success Sciences, a management consulting company in Randburg, followed by 4 years as a Business Analyst at Fidelity Springbok Security Services before joining IDS Consultants in 2007.
Over the next 2 years, Jarppi developed his MI/BI skills and acquired understanding of client SLA’s procedures and processes as a data warehouse administrator at a major financial institution. He also developed a front-end application to complement the existing Fraud Prevention procedures on credit cards, deploying a holistic solution to a team of 15 Risk Consultants.
During 2010, Jarppi was part of a team in the maintenance space optimising client’s systems, reducing run time, improving accuracy and reliability, and established a solid relationship with the business.
Jarppi has progressed through the ranks of senior consultant to project manager and was appointed an IDS manager in 2011. As Support Manager, Jarppi is responsible for the maintenance of production systems in an environment serving around 3000 end users. He leads a team of 5 consultants that continuously focuses on streamlining and optimising all functions within the MI/BI space as required by the client.
